Description:
We are seeking both PRIMARY & ALTERNATE employees to fill all contract positions. The primary is first in line for the position and the alternate is next in line to deploy should the primary person be unable to meet position and/or deployment requirements.
Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer supports a wide variety of existing and proposed computer network and communications systems projects.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
� Create complete end-to-end project plans including designs and/or upgrades for enterprise-wide LANs/WANs within the United States Antarctic Program (USAP)
� Manage projects as directed by IT management to ensure timely implementation or delivery of critical USAP infrastructure
� Install, configure, maintain and document network hardware and software suites at multiple sites. Isolate faults and diagnose system failures to resolve problems in a timely manner
� Monitor network performance and reliability to proactively identify potential problems
� Establish and maintain secure networking environments based on security standards in conjunction with USAP policies
� Assists with life-cycle management evaluations and recommendations
� Provides engineering, technical coordination and support to the USAP as needed
� Communicates both verbally and in writing in a professional and tactful manner
Palmer Research Station - Winter (April through October 2010):
The Network Engineer at Palmer Station is the sole IT position during the Winter season (April 2009 - October 2009). The position combines duties of Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, and Computer Technician. The Network Engineer is responsible for installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, workstations, and software as well as network equipment. Providing extensive user support (Mac and PC) and quality customer service are essential.
High level of expertise in the following areas strongly preferred:
� Windows 2000/2003 Server
� Windows XP Professional
� Active Directory administration
� Security and patch management implementation of standard configurations
� Group Policy Administration
� Administrative scripting (highly preferred)
� Exchange 2000/2003 administration
Additional Desired skills:
� MCSE, RHCT certifications
� Experience with VOIP systems
� Experience supporting Apple Macintosh systems
REQUIRED SKILLS:
� BS/BA degree in Computer Science or other related field with an emphasis in networks OR equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
� Successful candidate must have at least six years of directly relevant experience in network engineering to include each of the following:
Expertise in primary network topologies, LANs/WANs (Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, etc), TCP/IP protocol and standards including DNS, DHCP, BIND, ICMP & SNMP
Experience with configuring routed and routing protocols, such as RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and/or BGP
Configuration management expertise with Cisco IOS and hardware as well as prior experience installing and configuring Cisco 7000, 6500, 2600 routers & VOIP
Experience with network management applications such as H-P OpenView and/or CiscoWorks
Must be familiar with Internet mail systems and send-mail protocols
DESIRED SKILLS:
� Working knowledge of the Unix (Solaris, Linux) and Windows 2000/NT operating systems
� Cisco certifications including CCNP, CCDA, CCDP and CCIE
� Experience with SONET, ISDN & Frame Relay
� Experience with traffic shaping devices such as Packeteer
� Experience with security software, including Check Point

For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
